GENERAL DESCRIPTION: MetGard 8-2 is a water soluble, nitrite based corrosion inhibitor for temporary protection of steel parts and assemblies. At lower concentrations the resulting film can be painted without film removal. MetGard 8-2 can be used for improving the rust inhibition properties of conversion coatings.
USE PROCEDURE: MetGard 8-2 is normally used at a concentration of 3% to 20% by volume. Warm water facilitates drying. For protection from flash rusting on freshly phosphated parts, MetGard 8-2 should be sprayed on the parts at a concentration ranging from 0.5% to 1% by volume.
PERFORMANCE: Test results on plain steel parts in an indoor storage condition gave:
10 - 15 Days at 2% by volume
16 - 20 Days at 3% by volume
21 - 26 Days at 4% by volume
27 - 31 Days at 5% by volume
At 6% to 10% the corrosion protection ranges from one to two months. Because of the variety of atmospheric conditions encountered in industrial situations, product service must be determined by the users own test. The above information is presented as a guide in the use of this product with no guarantee or liability assumed.
SAFETY DATA: MetGard 8-2 is alkaline. In its dry form MetGard 8-2 is considered an Oxidizer. Store away from acids as contact with acids will release toxic gases. Wear proper attire (gloves, etc.) When in contact with any chemical substance. MetGard 8-2 presents no problems in waste treatment and is not harmful to the environment.
