USE PROCEDURE: MIC Black Oxide is used as supplied in a temperature range of 285°F to 295°F for approximately a five minute dip. The ability of MIC Black Oxide to apply a "bluing" to steel is temperature dependent. As the temperature falls below 285°F more product must be added. As the temperature rises above 295°F, water must be added. Cast iron parts blacken best at 285°F, while steel parts blacken best at 295°F.

Prior to the black oxide process, parts should be cleaned and thoroughly rinsed to ensure that the work is properly prepared. After the oxide process is complete, parts should be rinsed in a roiling boil, clear water rinse to remove the excess chemical. If desired parts can then be dipped in a water displacing corrosion inhibitor, Metgard WDS, for maximum corrosion protection.

SAFETY DATA: Contains sodium hydroxide. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. DO NOT INGEST. When handling, wear rubber gloves, goggles and any other appropriate equipment or clothing to avoid skin contact. Avoid contact with clothing. Should contact occur, flush skin with water; for eyes, flood with large amounts of water for 15 minutes and get medical attention. If ingestion occurs, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Drink fruit juice, milk or vinegar and get medical attention immediately. Read the Material Safety Data sheet before using.
