MIC-1040
Synthetic Solvent
GENERAL
DESCRIPTION: MIC-1040 is a heavy duty degreaser
and will attack the toughest soils and yet is easy
on the hands. It was developed for the parts washer
industry as a replacement for the toxic solvent Mineral
Spirits. MIC-1040 is a water base biodegradable degreaser
that allows oils taken up in the cleaning process
to separate from the solution for skimming and thereby
lengthens the life of the cleaner. The spent solution
maybe disposed of into the city sewer system. MIC-1040
maybe used in most cleaning systems, but was designed
for a heated parts washer with an oil skimmer for
optimum cleaning. It works best on greases if heated
to 100°F to 115°F and rivals mineral spirits
in its cleaning ability if so used. The following
is a comparison of MIC-1040 and Mineral Spirits as
to their toxicity:
FLASH POINT:
Mineral Spirits: 105°F. This is 35°F below
the flammable classification for solvents. MIC-1040:
None. Non-flammable.
THRESHOLD LIMIT VALUE (TLV):
Mineral Spirits: 100 ppm vapor in air. Trichlorethylene:
100 ppm vapor in air. MIC-1040: None
EVAPORATION RATE:
Mineral Spirits: 0.15 (butyl acetate = 1)
MIC-1040: As water. Product is lost when mineral spirits
evaporates, whereas only water is lost on evaporation
of MIC-1040.
UNUSUAL FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARDS:
Mineral Spirits: Vapor accumulation may flash and/or explode if ignited. Use with adequate ventilation. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flame.
LP-1040: None. Non-flammable.
WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD AND SPILLS:
Mineral Spirits: May not be sewered. Must be contained and hauled away.
MIC-1040: Skim oil and dump in drain. Mop up spills.
HOW TO USE: Concentration: 10% to 20%. Performs
most effectively in warmed solution. MIC1040 is designed
for use in a parts washer, but may be used in dip
tank or spray application. It is safe on all metals.
SAFETY DATA: MIC-1040 does contain alkaline
materials. When handling the concentrate, do not get
in eyes. Wearing gloves and eye shield is always good
practice when handling any chemical. Some persons
may be sensitive to the pH of the cleaning solution
(pH at use dilution = 10.5 to 11.0). If so, gloves
should be worn to avoid this. Read the Material Safety
Data sheet on this product before using.
